about

After moving from San Francisco to Seattle in December of 1989, I naturally started digging into the Music and Art scene there. I was amazed at the robustness and the variety of different arts programs. Grunge was just starting, there was, and still is a wonderful theater scene, and the music was remarkably diverse. Bill Frisell and Wayne Horvitz had just moved there from the New York "Downtown" scene, and Seattle had been the home of distinguished artists like Choreographer Pat Graney, Composer Morris Graves, Painter Jacob Lawrence, Cartoonist Gary Larson, Glass Art icon Dale Chihuly, Kinetic Sound Sculptor, Trimpin, Spoon player Spoonman, and bands like Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Nirvana were still playing in local clubs! And of course Seattle was the home of Jimi Hendrix!
I've always enjoyed exploring artists that are not necessarily mainstream, but unique. (Stomu Yamashta, Klaus Schulze). I loved the variety Seattle offered. One of my favorite organizations was called "On The Boards". They offered predominantly Avante Garde, forward-thinking artists from all genres, and for me it was just what I was looking for. I went to many wonderful performances there, and finally, I thought this could really be a chance for me to perform the kind of music that I wasn't known for but had been experimenting with for some time, which was electronic music, and presenting it as predominantly percussion-based, meaning I hit things! I had heard of Leslie Dabala from my new friend Jeff Greinke, a former Climatologist, who decided to put the moods of the Northwest Weather into wonderfully detailed electronic sound sculptures. (More on Jeff later with a Major release we and others collaborated on). Being a big fan of the Master electronic Trumpet player/Composer Jon Hassell, Leslie would be a perfect partner for me in this endeavor. So, this release is the outcome of our live performance that night of August 2, 1992, released for the first time here. This release is most likely the most experimental music that you have ever heard from me. I hope you find some surprises here and enjoy it. You've been forewarned!
